Dark Matter - Science Fiction You Can Identify With

Excellent book. Fast action. Great characters. Amazing story with plenty of unexpected twists. Sci-fi component is light and aligned with the most recent discoveries in physics. And it all makes you wonder about your own life & identity.

It’s hard to say more without spoiling the book. I’ll try anyway :)

Psychology

The characters have certain depth to them. They seem real and human like we are. With flaws and desires like ours. They’re full of thoughts about all the things they haven’t done in their lives. About the things that might have been.

I’ve noticed that a few days after reading the book I’m still there with the characters. I think this speaks to the power of writing in the book.

Action

The pace of events coming at the reader is breathtaking. You just can’t put the book down. After each turn, there’s a slightly slower piece and then action accelerates again.

Language

The language is simple, yet juicy. It’s a pleasure to read even through the few science-backed fragments.

Consider this paragraph about youth:

There’s a weightlessness that permeates everything because no damning choices have been made, no paths committed to, and the road forking out ahead is pure, unlimited potential.

Tasty, isn’t it?

The book reads like a good crime fiction (and there’s such a component to the book) or a thriller. There’s probably more genres mixed into Dark Matter.

Philosophy

The book also makes you wonder about your own life. About the implications of our scientific discoveries. Do we really want to have all the new choices we’re fighting for? Are we capable of handling the possibilities we’re creating? Why can’t we be happy with what we have?
